Projects
We believe in concrete activities, carried out together with children, young people and their communities. A single project does not change a society, but every project is a step along the great road.
How we work
We are not interested in actions carried out just for the photos. What matters to us is what people are left with once a project is over.
First we listen to what children and families are missing, and only then do we design the activity. A good project answers a real need, not an idea dreamed up in an office.
Schools, universities, local authorities and other organisations have resources we do not. Together we can open doors that would otherwise stay closed.
Roma crafts and music bring people together faster than any speech. We use them to start conversations about respect and prejudice.
What we do with Roma children today will bear fruit in 15–20 years. That is why we look for continuity, not one-off events.
Ongoing project
A series of activities that bring pupils from the commune of Cernica to the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest, so they learn that the law concerns them directly and that university is open to them.
Eighth-graders from the secondary schools in Cernica and Tânganu spent almost two hours discussing the offences most often committed by minors, educational measures and how to avoid becoming victims.
The meeting took place at the initiative of lawyer Laurențiu Tudorache, who represents Baro Drom.

A large group of pupils from the commune of Cernica was welcomed at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest. They visited the great hall, the lecture theatres and the council room, talked with professors and stepped into a courtroom where students learn how a trial works.
The aim was for the pupils to learn that the law protects them too, and that the road to a legal career is open to them.

Two years in a row, in 2016 and 2017, we brought Roma craftsmen to Balkanik Festival in Bucharest, where they demonstrated live the trades handed down from father to son.
The “Atelier cu meșteri bestoinici” tent brought together coppersmiths, spoon makers and paintings inspired by Roma life. Visitors could watch an object being made from copper or wood.
